You Really Are Not You When You’re Hungry!

Ever heard the Snicker’s tagline?
饿我非我
“you’re not you, when you’re hungry”.
信不信由你
Believe it or not
但这句话千真万确
this is completely true
你会不会经常发完脾气下一秒就后悔了
Do you get cranky often or snap and later regret it?
你会不会一饿就有脾气 吃完就好了
Do you have an attitude until you eat?
你可能被“饿脾气”缠上了
You might be suffering from hangry
你可能要说:“饿什么?你自己编的吧。”
You might be saying, “han what? That’s not a real word.”
不过 还真不是我编的
But it is.
2017版的韦氏大词典定义hangry(饿脾气)为形容词
The 2017 Merriam Webster dictionary defines “hangry” as an adjective
表示因饿而易怒
that describes being irratable due to hunger
换句话说 就是饿的时候容易发脾气
in other words, you get irritated or angry when you’re hungry
食物中的碳水化合物、脂肪和蛋白质
The carbonhydrates, fats and proteins in the food you eat convert into glucose
可以转化成一种叫葡萄糖的糖类
which is a type of suger
这些营养物质进入血液
These nutrients enter our bloodstream
分布到大脑和各个器官
and all distributed to our brain and organs
随着时间流逝 血糖会浓度开始下降
As time passes, our blood glucose levels start to diminish
如果血糖浓度太低
If these levels decrease too much,
大脑会以为到了生死存亡的时刻
then our brain perceives this as “life threatening”.

脑内这两种物质浓度升高 你就会突然发脾气
An increased level of these in the brain contributes to sudden anger
其实“饿脾气”是一种生存机制
Basically, hangry is a survival mechanism.
老祖先们总不能一边饿得发抖一边坐等食物送到嘴边
In the past, our ancestors couldn’t just chill and wait for food pass by them
总得干点事不至于饿死
They had to do something in order to not die from hunger
不像我们现在那么幸福 饿了有那么多零食可以抵一阵
Fortunately for us, there are foods to snack on when hungry
坚果、水果、罐头和饼干
nuts,fruits, tuna and crackers,
薯片拌酱、酸奶燕麦卷、水果泥还有蔬菜鳄梨
chips and guacamole,Greek yogurt with granola, or fruit hummus and veggies avocados
就算牛奶燕麦都可以安抚你的小脾气直到下一餐
or even oat milk can keep you calm until your next meal.

The trick here is to eat foods that contain protein, fiber and antioxidants

But you can try to keep healthy snacks near you to munch on
