那个白色的东西叫做“果粉”
That white stuff is called “the bloom”,
一种天然的蜡质敷层
a natural waxy coating
它可以保护葡萄或其它水果
that protects grapes and things like
比如蓝莓和李子不被霉菌感染腐烂
blueberries and plums from mold and decay.
如果你把这层蜡质擦掉
If you rub that coating off,
葡萄的储存时间就会骤然减少
the shelf life of your grapes will plummet.

That’s why harvesters try not to touch the grapes while they’re picking them.
