提升英语的聪明之道——词组学习

The smart way to improve your English | Learn Collocations

大家好!我是来自mmm英语的艾玛
Hello, I’m Emma from mmmEnglish!
曾经有英语母语人士这样跟你说吗
Has a native English speaker ever said to you “Hmm…
“你这种说法听起来不对”
What you said doesn’t sound right.”
“我们是不会这么说的”
“We just wouldn’t say it like that.” Often,
很简单 通常是因为
this is simply because you’ve used
你的词语搭配出现了错误
the wrong words in combination with each other.
只有极少数单词
There are only a small number of words
会在英语中与某一个单词搭配起作用
that work with a single word in English.
我以单词“question”为例
Take the word question for example.
这是个名词 但它也可以是个动词
It’s a noun, or it can be a verb,
但 它是个名词
but it’s a noun!
有许多形容词
And there are a group of adjectives
通常被用来修饰这个名词
that are often used with this noun to help describe it.
“一个尴尬的问题”或者”一个棘手的问题”
An awkward question or a difficult question. Relevant,
“相关的” “犀利的”或者“紧急的问题”
probing, or a burning question.
也有许多动词
There are also a group
用来与“问题”搭配
of verbs that are often used with
询问
question. Ask,
“回答” “面对”或“有”
answer, face or have. Now,
将此用法与动词make相比
compare this to the verb, make,
make通常不与”问题”连用
which is not usually used with question.
有些副词和介词
Certain adverbs and prepositions are also used
会与“问题”一起连用 有些则不会
with question when others are not.
当单词像这样同时连用
When words go together like this,
就被称为“词语搭配”
they’re called collocations,
就是指在英语句子中
words that frequently occur together
经常同时出现的单词
in English sentences.
母语人士之所以会指出
The reason why native speakers say
你说的话听起来古怪或者陌生
that something you said sounds weird or strange
原因就是他们不习惯
is because they’re not used to hearing
听到这些词组合在一起
those words together.
他们通常并不会这么搭配单词
They don’t often get said together,
所以会觉得听起来有点奇怪
so it sounds a bit strange.
还有部分问题是 你可能
Part of the problem is that you’re probably translating
只是单纯地把你自己的语言
words from your own language
翻译成了英语
directly into English.
那些在你的语言中可以连用的单词
Words that are commonly used together
在英语中就不能连用
in your language but in English, they’re not.
“举办一个派对”
Hacer una fiesta.
在西班牙语中这么说是成立的但是
It makes sense in Spanish but
如果你把这些词直接翻译过来你会得到
if you translate those words directly, you get
“制造一个派对”
make a party,
这不是英语中的正确表达方式
which is not the correct way to say this in English.
你能想到一些在你的母语中
Can you think of any examples in your own language
像这样的例子吗
that are like this?
当你直接翻译有些单词但在
Where you translate words directly and it just
英语中没有这种用法那它就是不成立的
doesn’t work in English, it doesn’t make sense.
你现在肯定已经想到一些例子了
I’m sure you can think of some that you already know.
词语搭配可能就像是
It’s likely that collocation is the problem
你把错误的单词搭配在一起的问题
that you’re just using the wrong words together.
问题是 这样就很容易
The problem here is that it’s very easy
形成不良习惯 并且
to get into a bad habit and use
使用一些你母语中听起来没问题的单词
words that sound okay in your own language,
当你以自己的思维直接翻译的时候
when you translate them in your head,
但这些在英语组合中
but they sound strange or even wrong
会听起来很奇怪甚至全然不对
in that combination in English.
为了更深层次探索词语搭配
To explore the idea of collocations a little more,
我们现在来单看一个简单的动词make
we’re going to focus on just one simple verb, make.
我们将简单研究一下动词make
And we’ll explore some of the common collocations
与名词或名词词组的常用搭配
of that verb specifically, make, with a noun or a noun phrase.
而我们只需要从食物开始
And we just have to start with food.
动词make广泛与食物
The verb make is so commonly used with food,
饮料和膳食一起应用
drinks and meals,
比如咖啡和茶
like coffee and tea.
(需要我给你冲杯咖啡吗)
Can I make you a coffee?
它和一日三餐连用
It’s used with meals like lunch, dinner, breakfast.
周日我更喜欢在家里做早餐
I prefer to make breakfast at home on Sundays.
你可以把它和food cake soup dessert一起搭配
You can use it with food, cake, soup, dessert.
如果你正在做晚饭 那我就去做甜品
If you’re making dinner, I’ll make dessert!
但是还有许多其他名词
But there are many other nouns
会与make搭配我读出这些名词时
that collocate with make and as I read them out,
将你不知道的做好标记
make a note of the ones that you don’t know

英语搭配的概念
The idea of English collocations
可以说是非常宽泛
can be pretty overwhelming.
我们只是选取了一个动词make
We just focused on the verb make
回顾了与之搭配的不同名词
and look at all of the different nouns that it collocates with.
但这不是所有的名词
And that’s not all of them.
但是像这样在常用的的搭配和语块中
But learning words together like this in chunks
一起学习单词真的是个好主意
in common collocations is a really good idea.
你每学一个新单词
You’re learning and practising a word along with
也可以学到和这个单词常连用的词
the other words that it commonly appears with.
下次你学习新词时我希望你试一下这个方法
Next time you learn a new word, I want you to try it.
让我来演示一下我的意思
Let me show you what I mean.
比如 你听到了一个名词innovation(创新)
Let’s say you just heard the noun, innovation,
然后你想花时间去摸索一下
and you wanted to spend some time exploring
和它常搭配的一些词
some of the words that it’s commonly used with.
这真的是一个很聪明的主意
That’s a really smart idea!
用一本英语搭配词典

collocations dictionary.
我在词语下面的释义栏中
