The first is to have structure to what it is you say.

the “what”, “so what”, “now what” structure.

This structure helps you convey a point,

You first start with the “what”,

that is the main point you’re trying to get across.

The “so what” explains why it’s important,

First, you need to have variation in your voice.

What we know is

monotone speakers are boring and disengaging.

So we need to have some variation

both in our rate and in our volume.

Second, we need to have variation in the evidence that we provide.

Whenever you make a claim, make an argument,

you need to support it,

Many people, especially inthe business world, use data.

技巧三 改述

The final tool, I think every effective business communicator needs to have
应该是每个高效的商业沟通者所必备的
is the ability to paraphrase.
在相当多的场合 改述都是一个实用的技巧
Paraphrasing is a tool that helps in so many contexts.
比如
For example,
如果有人提出了反对意见或者疑问
if somebody is making an argument or raising a question,
然而他们并不清楚或不确定
yet they’re very unclear and it’s not for sure
他们究竟要什么 请改述他们的话
what it is they need, paraphrase.
你可以说 我觉得你想问的是…
Say something like what I think you’re asking is,
或者我所听到的你的观点应该是…
or the point I hear you making is this.
这样可以帮助他们明确自己的问题
That helps solidify for them what it is they’re saying
并且也给你的回应提供一个出发点
and it gives you a launching point foryour response.
同样的 如果你是在一个会议上
Similarly, if you’re in a meeting
有人抛出了与你相反的观点
and somebody is raising objections or
或者纯粹是挑衅 你可以去改述
behaving rudely, you can use a paraphrase to say,
我听到了你的观点
I hear what you’re saying.
你对这个事情很热心
That’s something you’revery passionate about.
我下一步将要做的…
What I’d like to do next is…
所以改述可以把话题从别人那儿转移到你想沟通的内容上
So the paraphrase is a polite way to move from somebody else’s communication
而且十分礼貌
to where you need the communication to go.

With these three tools,being structured,

having variation both in your voice and in your evidence,
