增加英语词汇量的最好方法

The best way to improve your English vocabulary

增加词汇量的最佳方式是什么呢?
What is the best way to improve your vocabulary?
假如你询问英语老师或者其他英语学习者
If you ask this question to English teachers or other English learners,
他们将会告诉你相同的方法
they will tell you the same thing.
他们会说
They’ll tell you
增加词汇量最好的方式就是
that the best way to build your vocabulary is to learn vocabulary in
听读大量文本 从中学习词汇
context by listening and reading a lot.
我完全同意这个观点
And I completely agree with that.
这是增加词汇量的最佳途径
That is the best way to increase your vocabulary.
所以这是常识 对吗?
So this is common sense, right?
人人都知道的
Everybody knows that.
这个话题太无聊了
This topic is so boring.
但出现了个问题
But there’s a problem.
共识并非意味共同的行动
Common sense is not common action.
人人都知道如何增加他们的词汇量
Everybody knows how to improve their vocabulary,
但大多数人不这样做
but most people don’t do it.
因为他们花费过多时间
Because they spend too much time on things
在社交媒体以及有趣的猫咪视频
like social media and funny cat videos. Now,
现在 假设定期听力和阅读已是你的习惯
if regular listening and reading is a common practice
那么 这是值得庆贺的事
for you, then congratulations.
你不用观看这个视频了
You don’t need to watch this video.
但如果你还未养成习惯
But if it’s not a common practice for you yet,
就让我说服你
let me convince you to start listening
定期练习听力和阅读
and reading on a regular basis.
我会与你分享
I’m going to share
你将从这个习惯中获得的另外两种好处
with you two other benefits you’ll get from applying this habit.
在视频末尾
I’m also going to share
我还将分享一些听力和阅读材料
with you some listening and reading materials at the end of this video.
那让我们开始吧
So let’s get started.
你将获得的第一个好处就是“直觉”
The first benefit you’ll get is”intuition.”
什么是直觉?
What is intuition? Well,
好 让我们细说
let’s say that you come
当你遇到英语语法多选题时
across a multiple choice question about English grammar.
你盯着选项 立刻明白哪个是正确答案
You look at the choices and you know immediately what the correct answer is.
你无需明白其中的语法规则
You don’t know the grammar rule that explainsit.
背后没有任何推理
There’s no reasoning behind it.
仅仅是感觉对了
It just feels right.
那就是直觉
That’s intuition.
它来源于大量听力和阅读的输入
It comes from taking in a lot of input by listening and reading. Unfortunately,
不幸的是 一些人不认同直觉的力量
some people don’t appreciatethe power of intuition.
他们以非常奇怪的方式学习词汇
They learn vocabulary in a very strange way.
不在文本中学习单词
They don’t learn words in context. Instead,
而是找个单词清单
they find a list
依次记忆每一个单词的含义
of words and memorize the meaning of each word one by one.
这似乎是个好主意
This seems like a good idea.
他们在短期内学到大量新单词
They’re learning a lot of new words in a short period of time.
只存在一个问题
There’s only one problem with this.
这太笨了
It’s stupid.
我们知道单词的含义
Just because we know the meaning
并不意味着懂得遣词造句
of a word doesn’t mean that we can use it.
这是远远不够的
It’s not enough.
我们还需知道这个单词如何使用
We also need to know how the word is used. Now,
我确信你已经明白了 对吗?
I’m sure that you already know this, right?
你并不在那些人之中
You’re not one of those people.
你已经明白更好的学习单词的方式
You already know that it’s much better to learn vocabulary
是通过听力和阅读
by listening and reading.
因为当你这么做时
Because when you do that,
你不单单提高了词汇量 还有语法
you’re not only improving your vocabulary but also grammar,
句法结构 等等
sentence structure, and so on.
随着时间流逝 你会成为一个自主学习者
Over time, you will become an independentlearner.
这意味着你拥有了
It means that you’ll have the ability
无需依靠他人而提升英语的能力
to improve your English without help from other people.
这是很酷的事情
And that’s really cool.
让我们聊聊关于这个习惯的第二个好处
Let’s talk about the second benefit of thishabit.
就是提升你的脑力
The second benefit is an increase in brainpower.
正如肌肉通过体育锻炼变得强壮
Just like how a muscle needs physical exercise to become stronger,
你的大脑也需要
your brain needs mental
通过智力训练去成长
exercise to grow as well.
定期练习听力和阅读是一种极好的智力训练
Regular listening and reading is a great mentalexercise.
可以改善多种大脑机能
It improves so many functions of the brain.
当你听某人谈话时 你必须保持专注
When you listen to someone speaking, you haveto stay focused.
这会改善你的注意力
This improves your attention.
如果他们的语速太快
And if they’re speaking really fast,
你也能训练你的大脑快速处理信息
you’re also training your brain to process information faster,
从而产生更好的领悟力
which leads to better comprehension.
阅读也是同样重要的
Reading is great too.
它能改善你的记忆力
It improves your memory.
当你阅读一本小说时
When you read a novel,
你需要记忆大量细节 例如角色的名字
you need to remember lots of details like the names of the characters,
他们的背景 情节 等等
their backgrounds, the plot, and so on.
一些书还能提升你的才智
Some books even increase your intelligence.
阅读某些书籍能改善你的思考方式
Reading certain types of books improves theway you think.
另外还有一些好处
And these are just a few benefits.
好处太多了以至于我不能一一列举
There are so many other benefits that I didn’t even mention here.
现在你可能会想
Now you might be thinking,
“我为什么应该关注我的脑力?”
” Why should I care about my brain power?” Well,
因为它在英语语言开发中充当了重要角色
because it will play a huge role in your English language development.
尤其是如果你提高了英语口语
Especially if you’re trying to improve yourspoken English.
对非英语母语者的你我来说
For non-native English speakers like you and I,
开口说英语需要下苦功夫
speaking English requires a lot of effort.
它对认知能力提出极高的要求
It places great demands on so many cognitive functions like memory, attention,
例如记忆力 专注力 听觉处理
auditory processing,
以及推理能力 等等
reasoning, and so on.
倘若你想说一口流利的英语
So if you want to speak English well,
你需要一个强有力 健康的
you’re going to need to have a strong, healthy brain
并拥有多种能力的大脑
with lots of power.
顺便提一下
And by the way,
若你居住在非英语为母语的国家
if you’re not living in an English-speaking country,
这种习惯是必须的
this habit is a must.
在此我以个人经验述说
And I’m speaking from my personal experience here
因为我从未去过任何一个
because I’ve never been to an English-speaking
英语国家
country.
若你也在相同的处境下
If you’re in the same situation,
唯一的方法就是让你自己沉浸在英语中
the only way for you to immerse yourself in the English
去适应这个简单而有力的习惯
language is by applying this simple but powerfulhabit.
我保证你会爱上它的结果的
I guarantee that you’ll love the results.
为了你自己着想 今天就开始训练大脑吧
So do yourself a favor by start exercisingyour brain today.
