Hi, welcome back to Learn English with Cambridge.
We have come to my last episode now.
It’ s a bit sad.
In this episode, we will go dining.
There are many things I love about this city,
but one thing about Bangkok that
I love the most is that
this city has many many great dining places.
The restaurant that I’ m going to take you
to today is quite special.
It combines the world of the old and the new.
Normally, you don’ t need to make a booking,
if you want to eat out in Bangkok,
but this restaurant is quite special,
so I have to book a table, I think.
All right, we are walking to the restaurant now.
We’ re on the right track.
Trust me, I’ ve been here before.
It’ s a little bit dark but I feel safe, don’ t worry.
这里有点黑 但是别担心 我感觉很安全
This restaurant is situated in the Old Town of Bangkok.
It is also by the Chao Phraya River.
For me, this restaurant is a hidden gem in Bangkok,
because the food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful,
so beautiful it’ s breathtaking,
and it has a spectacular view overlooking the river.
The word spectacular here means very exciting to look at.
We’ re here now,
let’ s go and take a look inside.
This restaurant, if you ask me,
is charmingly decorated
and there’s plenty of antique stuff?
The word antique means something made in an earlier period
that is collected and considered to have value
because it is beautiful, rare, old,
因为它美丽 珍贵 古老
or of high quality.
The restaurant is a little bit small
but it is very romantic.
if you ask me,
It makes me feel
as if I have travelled back in time to the old days of Bangkok.
Can I say something?
This is really sweet.
I found this on the menu.
I will read everything out loud for you.
I find this really sweet.
I want to cook for you
the same food I would cook all my friends and family
and I’ m truly happy that you thought of us today.
That is Wat Arun, over there.
The word wat in Thai means a temple.
It is known as the Temple of the Dawn in English.
It is a very significant historical landmark in Bangkok.
If you want to visit this restaurant, I suggest
that you come in the evening,
because when the sun sets,
the view outside is even more picturesque,
a word here which means,
especially of a place, attractive in appearance,
especially in an old-fashioned way.
In Thailand, it is very common to share different side dishes,
while rice is our main staple.
A side dish is an extra dish of food,
for example vegetables or salad
that is served with the main dish,
sometimes on a separate plate.
I’ m full now, so I can talk again,
I can teach you some English.
Another thing you should know,
another thing that is useful
to know about eating out in Bangkok is
that you dont need to tip if you don’ t want to.
No one will be offended.
The word tip here means to give someone
who has provided you with a service
an extra amount of money to thank them.
All right, the party’ s over,
the restaurant’ s closed, and I have to go home now,
we have to say goodbye.
Before I go,
I want to say thank you to all of you
who are watching until this last episode.
Thank you so, so much.
I hope you have had a great time learning English with me
while exploring many different sides of Bangkok.
I am truly honoured to be a guest presenter
on Learn English with Cambridge.
And don’ t forget to check out our restaurant word list
on Cambridge Dictionary +Plus,
so you can practise the vocabulary
and test yourselves with the quiz.
Before I go, I want to tell you this.
Bear in mind that practice makes perfect.
For those of you
who are struggling to be good at English,
I know exactly what you are going through.
When I was young, I was so afraid of English.
I couldn’t speak English until the age of 15.
I was so afraid of making mistakes,
and I tried really hard to be good at it.
I’ m still trying to be better every day,
you know what I mean?
So keep practising, keep trying.
Never, never give up, okay?
永远 永远不要放弃 好吗
Right, we have to say goodbye now.
