My philosophy of parenting is kind of like you’re bowling with bumper pads.
You’ve got to let them fail and learn, but you’re always
just kind of keeping them in the middle of the road.
Alex started soccer right before her fifth birthday.
From day one, she was always one of the best players on the field.
So when Alex was about 13, we thought, we got to get her on a club team now.
And she tried out.
他们说 不 我们不要Alex
They said, no, we’re not picking up Alex.
She began to question herself.
Am I really good?
You know, my parents are my parents.
Of course they’re going to support me.
But she decided she wasn’t going to give up.
And I said, you know what, you need to go and try another team.
And it was the right choice.
They saw her potential.
And she just thought, I want to do whatever it takes
去变得更好 更强 更引人注目
to be better, stronger, more focused.
It just set her up for her trajectory.
Alex Morgan has done it!
And the rest is history.
许多男孩儿曾对我说 我不能打橄榄球 因为我是一个女孩儿
A lot of boys have told me that I can’t play rugby because I’m a girl.
I was told that I couldn’t be aggressive when I went down the court.
What would you say to a girl who’s thinking of quitting?
I’d say don’t you dare.
You deserve to play whatever sport you want to play.
So don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it.
