– Have you ever wanted to chop it up
like chefs at your favorite restaurant? Well,
today you’re in luck.
We’ve got a nifty tip that’ll
step up your cheffing and your prepping,
and it costs less than two bucks.
As you know,
here at Household Hacker we like to show you
how to make DIY versionsof the finest products
available on the internet. However,
today’s DIY projectcould not be further from that.
Introducing Amazon’s latestcraze, the finger guard.
This is basically a littleshield for your fingers
that prevents you from cutting yourself while slicing veggies.
Now if you want to make one
of these finger guards yourself,
you’re gonna need a Ring Pop.
Go ahead and remove yourRing Pop from the bag.
Now to separate it from the ring itself,
just twist the candy off and put it aside
for some delicious snacking later.
Now you’ve got yourself thebase, and let’s move on.
You’re gonna want to get yourself
a gift card or some sort of hard plastic.
You can even use a case like this.
We’ll get to that later.
But first, take your Ring Pop,
you need to remove the littlestub that’s coming off.
Just grab some clippers, get as close as possible,
and there you go.
Now you’ll notice after you remove the tab
that you’ll have alittle bit left on there.
You wanna grab some sandpaper
and just sort of work it down
until you get it nice andflat and flush altogether.
After you’ve got it filed down, it should look something like this.
Now just get your gift card ready and get yourself a hot glue gun.
You can also use superglue in a pinch.
Now go ahead and put the ring
on and line your gift card
up to it so that it’sprotecting all of your fingers,
but still flat to the board.
You still want to use these fingers to hold the vegetables in place.
Take your glue gun and put a huge glob
right in the center of the ring.
And then when you’re ready, press down hard,
and hold it in place just for a little bit.
Once your glue has dried,
go ahead and put it on your finger
and make sure that itcame out as you intended.
Give it a little scrape test,
and you’re ready to cut some veggies.
We’ll start with some carrots here. Now,
if you go at a 45 degree angle,
this will allow you to cut on the bias
pretty quickly and safely at the same time. Also,
if you’re looking to cut those peppers
up into smaller chunks, it’s really simple,
just go ahead and slice down the line.
Now this thing is particularly great for stuff like green onions.
Now you can just focus on slicing them and not worry
about cutting your fingers off.
Now keep in mind that gift cards are
n’t the only thing you can use,
any type of hard plastic will do.
We took some from the bottomof this storage container
and it worked quite well.
You can even add a littleangle to the bottom
if you want to grab morecontrol over the vegetables.
And if you don’t have
a Ring Pop or any plastics available,
you can use something assimple as a paper plate,
just make sure that it’s pretty thick.
Now what you want to do
is cut a nice rectangle or square
out of the plate.
Doesn’t need to be perfect initially,
as you can clean it up later.
Once you have a nice square or rectangle,
go ahead and fold it loosely in half,
take your scissors, about 3/4 of the way up
go ahead and cut two slits.
It should look somethinglike this after you’ve cut
the two slits, and then you can open it up
and slide your finger inside.
This will act in a similarfuction to the plastic ones
that we made, thoughit won’t be as sturdy.
We’ll go ahead and testthe cardboard version out
on a carrot.
Now you may notice that this version has a little
bit of a curve in it, but don’t
worry about that, some people actually enjoy it.
Just start from the top and slice down,
protecting your fingers at the same time.
You might also find thatit doesn’t last very long,
but if you have a lot ofcardboard laying around
you can make as many as you need to.
So there you have it, agift card cut cornucopia
of vegetable deliciousness.
Thank you so much for watching, and we’ll see you next time.
