Animals that were slaughtered by the millions.

宠物是人类留在身边用以陪伴的动物
A pet was a companion animal that humans kept for company
并且给予它们大量爱与感情
and showered with love and affection.
所有动物都是宠物吗？
Were all animals pets?
不 大多数动物是食物
No, most of them were food.
谁决定哪些动物是宠物
Who decided which animals were pets
以及哪些动物是食物呢？
and which animals were food?
当然由人类来决定了
Humans did, of course.
这似乎没有逻辑性
There seems to be no rhyme or reason
来解释为什么一种特定的动物会被选为宠物
to why a particular animal was selected to be a pet
因为各个国家的划分不同
as it differed in every country,
但是我们清楚他们所吃的动物
But we do know the animals they ate
都有一个共同点
had one thing in common.
它们都是由肉组成的
They were made of meat.
人类不也是由肉组成的吗？
Weren’t humans made of meat?
是的
Yes.
那人类会不会相互为食呢？
Did they eat each other?
在大灾难之后确实会这样
After the apocalypse, definitely.
在那之前 并不多见
Before then, not so much.
人们食用这些由肉组成的动物
people ate animals that were made of meat
但他们不会吃掉同样由肉组成的宠物吗？
but they didn’t eat their pets who were also made of meat?
是的 那些人被称为伪善者
Yes, these people were known as hypocrites.
如果人们吃了他们的宠物会怎么样呢？
What happened if a human ate their pet?
通常来说 杀害或虐待宠物是违法的
It was actually against the law to kill or abuse a pet.
人们会因此入狱的 孩子
People went to jail for that, son.
但是如果你杀了一只不是宠物的动物
But if you killed an animal that wasn’t a pet,
就是可以的吗？
it was okay?
是的 完全正确
Yes, exactly.
如果是说 一只家畜
If it was say, a farm animal,
比如一头奶牛 一头猪或者一只鸡
like a cow or a pig or chicken
它们和家养的宠物狗和宠物猫 有着相似的特征
who had similar personalities to household pets like dogs and pets
也能够获得爱与感情
and were just as capable of love and affection
刺伤 射杀 剥皮 烹煮和屠宰它们也是可以的
it was okay, just stab, shoot, skin, burn and butcher them
因为它们本来就被认为是
because they were deemed as,
来跟我一起念 食物
say it with me, food. Oh,
你们没跟我一起念
you didn’t say it with me.
我不明白
I don’t get it.
为什么有些动物就比其他的重要呢？
Why were some animals more important than others?
好吧 我们并不是很清楚
Well, we don’t really know.
我是说 我们所知道的是 人类似乎对某些动物更偏爱
I mean, all we’ve get is that humans seemed to care about some animals more than others
因为它们更可爱或者更毛绒绒的
because they were cuter and fluffier.
这就像是社会中也会更偏爱某类人
Much like society cared about some humans more than others
因为他们头发更偏金色 肤色更白
because they were blonder and whiter.
人类至少能人道地屠宰他们所吃的动物吧？
Did they at least kill the animals they ate humanely?
（笑）哦天哪！不可能！
(laughing) Oh my God! No!
不过这的确引导我们进入下一个话题
But that does bring us to our next topic,
