A few weeks ago, I decided to pack my bags.
I bought a train ticket,
and take a spontaneous trip down to Hiroshima to do something I have wanted to do for a while now:
cycling the Shimanami Kaido.
A 70 kilometer cycling route that passes through six islands,
passing six bridges that connects the main island Honshu to Shikoku.
Shikoku!! I’m coming for youuuu!!
So come along with me on this two-day journey.
And let’s see if I managed to get myself a counselor at the side.
The Shimanami Kaido bike route connects Hiroshima and Ehime Prefecture together.
You can start your journey from either side.
However, I decided to start off in Hiroshima.
Once you get off at the closest station, it’s a short walk to the bike rental place.
There are three bike rental services here.
However, I recommend this one.
As it was the cheapest, and had a variety of qualitied bikes you could choose from.
Explaining bike rules.
Okay, I got it.
My bags are heavy!
I picked the bike of the biggest basket, which is probably not the best idea.
You should get like a cross bike or whatever.
But I’ve got, you know, four days all that stuff, and this one backpack,
so I think I did pretty well for, like, baggage wires.
So just as I finish videoing, all myself falls up.
To get to the first island,
you have to take a short five-minute ferry ride from the ferry terminal next to the bike rental shop.
放大 放大 看那里
Zoom, zoom, look at that.
1st island, Mukaishima.
12:20 好勒 迟了总比没来好
12:20. Well, it’s OK, it’s better late than never.
But we’re gonna start out journey. I’m very excited.
We’re gonna hold this blue line.
It’s very simple when you get here.
You just follow a straight blue line.
So, let’s go.
Alright, I think it’s a good decision.
We put my bag at the back, tying it up.
Follow the blue line and just go.
Don’t worry about me. I’m following behind you.
Well, look at that supermarket. That’s super run-down.
That’s a very local area with schools and supermarkets.
It’s a residential area.
Just listen how quiet it is.
Can you hear the birds?
So just as you stopped filming, we get to look the best part.
I want to live near the sea.
But you know, it’s just only gonna get more and more beautiful from here on.
This is just a start.
I mean, we just had a cycling, and it’s been how long?
We’re not even on the bridge.
Cause someone turned the wrong direction.
Well, someone, who’s that someone?
Now we’re gonna climb that rock.
I love how this just like a strip of sand here.
And then it’s like I fall from the rock, and I can’t do the rest of the trip.
And that’s how you do it.
And this is the day my friend realize that I am just super great on camera.
Like, I, I’m not joking, this is…
Harder than it looks… I swear!
It’s OK, I’ve got insurance in Tokyo.
OK, I think I’m fine.
I’ve seen a lot of people riding along this track from kids to elderlies.
So, anyone can do it, even if you’re a beginner.
And it’s beautiful, you can’t be riding by the sea.
You know, see my bridge.
So we’re gonna go across that bridge, see the second island.
有人说 走的越远 看到的风景就越美 尤其是终点
They say that, the more you go along the track, the more beautiful it gets, especially at the end.
So, I’m really looking forward to that.
We’ve reached the end of the first island.
骑自行车花了一个小时 当然沿途看了看景点 拍了些照片
It took us around an hour to cycle, and kind of see the scenic spots along the way, and take photos, of course.
But now, we’re gonna cross the bridge, and go to the second island.
So, first island done.
Well, you can see the little island over there.
2nd island, Innoshima.
Feel so good going downhill.
I don’t think they really understood what the meaning of signal meant.
When they made this, however,
you can’t take a very beautiful photo of bridges and the sea, and the little island in the background.
We’ve better get a move on, because we still got six more islands to go.
My friend was saying how I look like a hobo, because they’ve got my bag tied around in the back, it was like a rope.
And in the front I’ve got water.
Angela’s mama-chari adventures “hobolife”.
So the second island has more like produce and vegetation.
If you heat this up, it also tastes really good.
These things look so good.
Fried chicken burger.
No bag, thanks.
Look at that chicken.
-Yeah, it was really good.-Hmm, really good.
I’m so happy.
Before you cross the islands, you have to go a bit uphill to the bridge.
I’m tired pushing my bike a little bit.
It’s so nice to ride on top of the bridge,
because you feel the wind in your hairrr!
3rd island, Ikuchijima.
So, I’ve stopped along the streets.
We were planning to do this in one day, all the islands.
However, I think it’s much better, and we split it into two days.
So you have more time to stuff along the way and not rush.
All the way across the islands,
I guess across that we find accommodation, because it can be pretty chilly in autumn.
Go go go, pick up the pace.
I think we’ve reached the town center.
我们看到了罗森 看到了超市 还看到了
We’ve got Lawson, we’ve got a supermarket, we’ve got…
Urban 想知道那是啥 不过算了
Urban. I wonder what that is, but it’s OK.
At least we know we’re gonna get food at lawson , 7-11today.
So I just went into family Matt.
And I asked him about this area. And they gave me a map.
And I think we’re gonna be fine, because there’s a lot of hotels.
And the search for accomodation begins…
It’s like a totally different atmosphere at night.
And all the shops are closed.
如果你没地方休息 我们可以呆在餐厅 24小时营业的餐厅
If you don’t have a place to stay, we can stay in a restaurant, like a 24-hour restaurant.
I don’t think they have them here…
Well, there’s a seat for you to sit.
I think what’s our best option is go to a shop that’s actually open, and just ask them.
Oh, my God. Let’s go in to shop.
Ask someone if there is any place to stay, and then just go from there.
You hear the voices of all these so.
-Are you scared?-Yeah, kind of scared.
-Are you actually scared?-Yeah.
I’m here, don’t worry.
Excuse me, is there anywhere to stay near here?
I’ll ask around. So just wait here for a bit.
Thank you! We would appreciate that!
Are you fully booked today?
You don’t have room for two young people?
Two young people.
Ah… I see.
They are outside my shop now.
Okay, take care.
Ah, no worries.
Hold up… Let me think.
They are full
Let me think where else there is…
#Discussing accomodations around the island.#
Ah! I’ll give that hotel a call!!
Gve me a sec!
Thank you very much!
Okay… I see, thank you.
Ahh…you can’t get back to Hiroshima at this time either.
You guys are fully booked today, aren’t you?
I see, thank you anyway.
Everywhere is full.
To be continue…
Part 2Out next week
