So how do suckers stick so well?

It’s not super glue.It’s water pressure.

Each sucker has a ring called an infundibulum.
它形成一处不透水的密封垫
It creates a water-tight seal.
吸盘内部有一个腔体
Inside the sucker, there is a chamber,

like a cup, called acetabulum.

It’s full of water.

When the octopus expands the chamber,

it lowers the pressure inside.

creating a powerful grip.

Suckers get such a workout

A lot for the octopus’ central brain to process.

So each arm has a mind of its own.
