with you the story on how I figured all of this out.

So one day I’m browsing YouTube,
它给我推荐了一个视频
and a video gets recommended to me called

The 10 Benefits to Waking Up Early.
我点击了它 发现早起
And I click it and I find out that getting
可以做这么多令人惊叹的事情
up early can do all these amazing things.
它可以助我减肥 让我变得更强壮有力
It can help me lose weight, it can make me more muscular,
甚至还可以让我赚更多钱
and even make me more money,

and basically, it just turns me

into this incredible human being.

So I set a goal

to wake up early every single day

for the next 30 days

because I desperately wanted

all of these benefits.

So for the next seven days,

I woke up at 5:30 a.m. every single day,

and obviously I was really tired.

And I was in college at that time,

so I tried doing all of my schoolwork at first,

but I didn’t really get that much done.

I found that my brain was not able to focus

that intensely that early in the morning.

Plus, I just hated doing schoolwork in general.

So for the second week, I tried going to the gym.

But when I got there, I didn’t really feel that good,

and I didn’t feel as strong as I normally was

when I went in the afternoon.

So that didn’t work out either.

By this point, I’m thinking to myself that,

This whole waking up early thing isn’t working for me,

and I actually stopped.

And I think it’s at this point when most people stop.

or we lack self-discipline, and that’s the reasonwhy we can’t do it.

But for me personally, I don’t think this is true.

I don’t think we lack any of those qualities.

I think the reason why we can’t do it

is because we simply don’t have the right mindset.

And I’m gonna share with you the correct mindset right now.

So fast forward a couple of years, and now I’m graduated.
在网上赚钱 所以我其实可以安排自己的时间
And I’m making money online, so I could actually make my own schedule.
于是我决定重新审视早起这件事
So I decided to revisit this whole waking up early thing,
不过这一次 我做的事情有所不同
but this time, I did something different.
我没有去做那些我不喜欢的事情
Instead of doing something that I didn’t like,
比如作业之类的 而是去做我真正喜欢的事
like homework or whatever, I did something that I actually enjoyed,
这对我来说 就是冥想 阅读
which for me was meditating, reading,
以及做我自己的事情
and working on my own business.
我发现 阅读一本好的商业书籍
I found that reading a good business book
或是一本鼓舞人心的书籍真的会让我的大脑兴奋起来
or a inspirational book really ignited my brain,
这也让我真的想要在当天保持高效
and it made me really want to be productive for the day.
这种感觉
This feeling was something that I could look
我每天早晨都会很期待
forward to every single morning.
不过有些时候 那些书也无法激励我
But there was still times where I wasn’t motivated,
虽然我的确很喜欢那样
and although I really like all that,
但这还不足以让我早起
it still wasn’t enough for me to get up in the morning.
有一些早晨 我其实会
There are some mornings where I’ll actually
去 Netflix 上看一个节目
go on Netflix and I will watch a show
叫 非凡住宅
called Extraordinary Homes.
在这个节目里 他们基本上只会给你展示
And on this show, they basically just show you

these really expensive houses.

And the reason why I did this was

because there was something about seeing all these amazing mansions,

and seeing all these beautiful European landscapes

in places like Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland

that it reminded me of what was possible

if I worked hard enough.

This mindset and this reminder really gave me
一个每天早起的理由
a reason to wake up every single morning.

It gave me my why.

So, this is what I would recommend.
早晨 尝试去做点
In the morning, try and do something
你自己真正喜欢的事情
that you actually enjoy,
或更重要地 做点可以归为私人时间的事情
Or more importently, something that can be classified as me time.
理想情况下 它应当是
And ideally, it should be something
能让你的生活前进的事情
that moves you forward in your life.
你应该不会想看老友记或者其他什么东西吧
You probably don’t wanna be watching Friends or something.
但这并不是说 这件事要有很重大的意义
But it doesn’t have to be something really big.
它可以只是
It could simply be just going
在早上散散步
for a walk in the morning,
或者打扫一下你的公寓
or it could be cleaning your apartment.
它几乎可以是任何事情
It almost could be anything.
不过它必须是你自己想出来的
But it is something that you have to figure
而且你必须要明白
out for yourself, and you have to understand
你做这件事的理由
why you are doing it.
如果你真的不知道你想要做什么
And if you really have no idea what you wanna do,
那么我建议你开始培养一个新的爱好
then I would recommend starting a new hobby,
甚至是着手一件小事
or even a small business.
但这里的关键在于
But the key thing here is to reshape the way
重塑你对早起的看法
you look at waking up in the morning.
不要把它看成一件很可怕
Don’t view it as this awful thing
需要大量动力和自律的事情
that is going to require a bunch of motivation
就像大多数网民告诉你的一样
and self-discipline like most of the internet tells you.
要把它看成一个享受愉快私人时光的机会
View it as an opportunity to have someenjoyable me time,
或者一个追求梦想的机会
or an opportunity to pursue your dreams.

However, before you actually consider waking up early,
你需要明白两件大事
there are two major things that you need to understand.
首先 你不需要仅仅为了早起而牺牲睡眠
First of all, you should never sacrifice sleepjust to wake up early.
睡眠不足会导致你体重增加
Sleep deprivation can cause you to gain weight,

have a worse memory, and be less creative.

So regardless of what time you are getting up,
都要确保你拥有适量的睡眠
be sure you are getting the right amount of sleep,

which typically is between eight and nine hours.

And secondly, just because you see all these YouTubers

going on and on about the benefits of waking up early,

it still may not be right for you,

because there are some people who just function

better at night, or they’re more creative at night.

Take me, for example.
自从我开通这个 YouTube 频道
Since I’ve started this YouTube channel,
我注意到 我在晚上会想到很多有创意的点子
I’ve noticed that I get a lot of creative ideasin the evening,
而且我发现自己 会在晚上写东西
and I find myself writing in the evening.
实际上 现在是晚上9点22分 我正在写作
Literally, right now, it’s 9:22 p.m, and I’m writing.
而我正在写作是因为我现在有灵感去写
And I’m doing that because I’m inspired to write.
如果我现在停下不写 等到第二天早起
And it would be stupid of me to stop now,
然后发现自己已经没有灵感 没有创意的话那我可就太蠢了
then wake up early tomorrow morning and then just be uninspired and not creative.
所以要有自知之明 搞清楚什么对你有用
So become self-aware and see what works for you.
