that I invented many many years ago,

back in college when I was drinking, smoking

and to eventually come up with a plan.

These are the writing prompts that I’ll use most often

whenever I commit to doing a dopamine fast.

Question No.1 Do I feel any discomfort today?
如果是 哪个身体部位感受得到?
If so, where in my body am I feeling it?
情感伤痛还是身体伤痛?
Is this an emotion or is this physical pain?
如果是情感伤痛 试着描述出来
If it’s an emotion, try to describe it.
是焦虑吗?
Is it anxiety?
是绝望吗?
Is it depression?
是羞愧吗?
Is it shame?
感觉如何?
What does it feel like?
问题二 问问自己
Question No.2 Ask yourself–
我为什么会这样想?
Why do I feel this way?
重要的是不要苛责化学因素的困扰
Now it’s important not to blame a chemical reason,
或者是 你懂的 遗传学因素或其他人
or you know, genetics or other people,
因为绝大多数情况下我们感觉
because most of the time the reason we feel bad is
很糟的原因是由于某些自己可以控制的事
because of something that we can control.

There are almost always things that you are doing,

that are causing these issues.

So ask yourself–What things have I been doing

that could possibly be causing these issues?

Question No.3 What should I do to fix it?

What are 1-3 things that I can do tomorrow
一定程度上缓解伤痛的事是什么?
that will at least somewhat address this pain?

Things that would get me a couple of steps closer
处理造成伤痛的难题的事情
to fixing whatever problem is causing this pain.
问题四 如果在未来五年间我没有
Question No.4 What would my life be like
做1~3件中任何一件可缓解伤痛的事
if I did not do any of these 1-3 things
那生活会是什么样子?
for the next five years?
设想最可能出现的糟糕情境
Assume the worst possible scenario
然后切实描述
and really describe it.

You have all of the time in the world,

because quite frankly, there isn’t much else to do.
