And in this video, I’ll teach how to make the origami flexagon.

Alright, see you can do this with basically any piece of paper you have.

All that we need to do is…

We need a one by two ratio rectangle.

So I’m gonna show you how to do that with this.

This is a standard printer paper in the U.S.

So first, we are gonna start over this one.

And I’m just gonna show you pretty quick,

which, by the way, I will mention before I start. I go fast.

I do that on purpose, so that my videos aren’t crazy long.

Alright. So let’s go ahead and get started.

So first thing we gonna do,

we’re gonna fold this edge over to that edge.

Now this can be a fairly strong crease.

So take your time, make sure that all the edges are lined up.

And then go ahead and use your fingernail and make a nice strong crease like that.

Alright, now we are going to unfold.

And next, what we are gonna do is we are gonna fold this edge up to the central crease,

Kind of like a paper airplane.

Now this one doesn’t need to be very strongly creased,

but it should also be very accurate.

So make sure you are lining things really well.

Make sure everything is really perfect and then fold.

I’m not gonna fold super firm though, just kind of lightly pressing it down.

Alright, get the same thing on the other side.

Alright, so now we have kind of paper airplane-looking shape.

What we’re gonna do now is flip it over and we are gonna fold this top edge down.

Okay. We are gonna fold it down until we see this flap sticking up,

so the crease will be right where these flaps are.

So keep the center crease in line and make sure that you’re folding down to

exactly where the paper is, the other edges.

Alright, now this one, you want to crease it very strongly.

Alright, go several times.

Now unfold the entire thing.

And see a position of paper’s butt, this is now a mountain fold.

We are gonna go ahead and reverse it.

So fold it down and crease very strongly again.

Now we are going to do a rip on that crease.

I’ll put a card right there each by the “i”, it’ll pop out in a second.

And if you don’t wanna watch it, you can just take scissors and cut along that line.

But anyway, what we are gonna do is we’re gonna start with a small tear,

and then, as I demonstrated in my other video, you just kind of bunch and pull at the same time.

And it creates a perfect tear, alright?

So now I’m going to kind of work these creases out just a little bit by folding the other way.

Ok. So now we have a perfect one by two piece of paper.

So we are going to rotate this 90 degrees.

Actually, I’m gonna zoom out at here, so we can see most of… There we go.

I’m gonna fold it in half so that there is a center crease running up and down this way.

And again, take your time to line everything up, especially with this model,

Everything needs to be pretty done and precise.

Alright, there is our center crease.

Now I’m going to unfold…

and we are gonna fold these edges into that center crease, this one as well.

Alright, now this edge.

Alright, now that we’ve done that, let’s rotate it 90 degrees again.

And you’ll notice from a previous step that there is a crease running down the center right here.

We are gonna do, we’re gonna fold both of these edges, the far edges into that center crease.

And when you’re done folding, unfold those.

Alright, now what we are going to do, we’re gonna finish this grid by… oops

subdividing between those. I should stop doing that.

This edge should go, fold it into this crease right here.

Just like that.

Alright, unfold. Now we are gonna fold this edge into this crease over here, the farthest one.

Alright, unfold that.

Now we’re gonna rotate, do the same thing.

I’m gonna fold this one into the nearest.

Unfold. And this one, not to the farthest this time, but to the second farthest.

That’s because the farthest is not one of the ones we did.

Alright, there we go.

So now we have perfect little squares. I don’t know they are showing up here.

But we got perfect squares.

So now what we are gonna do is we are gonna to be folding in a slope of two.

But anyway, what we are gonna do is we are going to make a fold that goes from here

and runs down to here.

So see how it’s going down 2 for every 1, alright?

Now we’re gonna go from here, and we are gonna go down like that.

From here all the way to the corner.

And then this corner here, alright, we are gonna do that.

And then we are gonna go the opposite directions.

We’re gonna fold this one from the corner through there and down.

So there, you can see this kind of diamond shape pattern.

That’s the folds we are going for, so let’s go ahead and do that.

Fold along all of these lines.

Ok. So now we finished folding in all of our diamond grip patterns.

And as you can see, they cross at like intersecting points.

That’s really important. I probably should’ve mentioned that earlier.

But that’s something that’s crucial to how to… this thing moves.

Anyway if you didn’t, it should be ok for your first try.

So now, what we are gonna do is we are going to

fold in these edges to the center crease like this. Ok?

So this flap right here, this side is going to go inside this flap.

Actually we don’t know which one is going in which yet.

So that’s why I’m doing this and I’m going to look very closely.

And compare, and see if one of them is bigger than the other.

If you did perfectly, there shouldn’t be any difference,

but usually there is a little bit of deviation, that’s because perfection is not easy.

So I’m lining up the bottom perfectly, and then the top.

I can see that this one is slightly bigger.

So I’m gonna put this one inside this.

Alright, and see here’s how we are gonna do that.

And take this one and open up this flap right here, open it up.

And gonna take this and stick it inside the flap up there.

Alright, now I’m gonna push until it is in two square like this basically. The whole side.

Alright, it’s very hard to do this without crumpling your paper but do your best.

Alright, so once this ends, you‘ll see that we have creases,

but though it’ll be kind of misaligned because there’s now two layers in there.

So go ahead and refold along all the creases here

to make sure that everything has the same fold because that’s important.

Alright, let’s fold here.

And, just kind of end out those points. Alright.

unfold. So that you’ll notice that what we’ve done is we created a ring here.

It’s actually a pretty decent looking ring.

Oh. It’s just kind of cool how it works out like that.

Anyway, enough for that. What we’re gonna do now is make the actual flexagon.

So I’m gonna find where there are tabs like this, not here, because this is a point.

But this kind of like a side or here that presses down.
但这里是有点像条边或者可以按下去
I’m gonna press inwards on those, ok, so there’s nothing here.
我要在这些地方往里按 所以这里没有了
But this one there is, we can press these in, alright.

In here, I’ll press these in and that would be all three of them. Ok?
这里也按下去 然后这三个就全了 对吧？
Now we have this kind of hexagon shapes running around like this.
现在我们有了个这样的的六边形
We’re gonna take the top point and push it back.
我们要把顶点推回去
Alright, try minimize the crumpling and make sure that everything’s spinning around the crease line.
好 尽量减少皱折 确保纸都在折痕线附近弯曲
Ok. Do the same thing over here, take these points and push them backwards.
好 在这边进行同样的步骤 找到这些点 然后推回去
Alright, one more. Take these points and push backwards.
好 再做一次 找到这些点 然后推回去
Alright, now once all the points are together, you see that it forms the flexagon.
好 一旦所有的点都在一起了 你能看到形成了一个六边形
To start, you need to go slow, so that it kind of work, bend in.
一开始 你需要放慢速度 这样它才能折进去
Alright, so that way, you don’t crumble it and destroy it for the next time you wanna use it.
好 这样你就不会揉皱它 也不会折不了下一轮
So just slowly start moving it by pushing these backwards, alright.

There we go. You see this side coming through.

Alright, now push these back.

Push them back again.

Alright, you can see it started to crumple a little bit on me.

So that’s why you gotta go really slow and careful.

Now you have an infinitely moving flexagon. These are crazy cool.

I just love how it moves and how it works perfectly, geometrically.
