How to be “Good Looking” - The Secrets of Attractiveness

In this video, we’re going to be talking about beauty,
what it is, what it’s not, and how you,
even if you’re a dude, can become more beautiful,
also known as being attractive, handsome,
or good-looking, with the help of science.
Now, most of the information in this video is based on
a book called Survival of the Prettiest written by Nancy Etcoff.
So first, what is beauty?
Well, you might have heard a phrase,
like “beauty is something different for everyone”,
or “it’s in the eye of the beholder”.
Scientists even notice
that when we start to talk about beauty,
we stop describing about what beauty is
and about what the affect it has on others.
For example, people say things like”I can’t define it,
but I know it when she walks into a room”,
and “it’s when someone walks in the door
and you almost can’t breathe”.
These are two famous quotes.
There are also a ton of synonyms that agree:
breathtaking, knockout, drop-dead gorgeous,
bombshell, stunner, ravishing.
In fact, the absence of your response
to someone who is beautiful
is actually a sign of profound depression.
Your brain just doesn’t get excited when it should.
Beauty is more about your response to it
than it is a characteristic of that person.
Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?
Well, science says otherwise.
We can prove that beauty isn’t a social construct,
but that it’s a measurable thing.
Actually, I’m gonna release a series about personality.
I think it’s going to be about 20 videos long.
But one thing that’s important in science is
that we can measure something throughout time,
and across every instance of its occurrence.
And beauty does this.
So, there are two main studies in the book that
help prove this, and they both have to do with babies.
So, in the first study,
researchers got a group of babies under six months old.
Why under six? you ask.
Because they didn’t want the babies having
any cultural influence, and they wanted to make sure
beauty was something that was human,
not something that was only found in the USA
or a first world country.
所独有
Anyways, they somehow got babies to look at faces
in a somewhat experimental way.
They found that babies looked at beautiful faces longer
than ugly faces, and not just a little bit either,
like it was a significant matter of time.
Now, the second study is also on babies.
But it’s a little bit more harsh.
Scientists studied a mother’s behavior
towards their child, based on
the baby’s rated attractiveness. And sadly,
if the baby was likely to be rated as ugly,
the mother actually spent less time holding them.
And also the mother reported higher stress
trying to take care of the child.
This kind of study makes me wonder how it went down.
“Hey, uhh… I see you have a baby there.
We’re doing a study on… ugly babies.
Would you wanna participate?”
So, my first tip is to have big eyes
and a small mouth and nose.
Through babies, we can learn a lot.
Like, we can learn that what we call cute
are literally things that look like babies.
And why is this? Well, scientists say
that we are predetermined to like things with big eyes,
a tiny mouth and nose, and chubby cheeks.
And here’s maybe one reason why.
Infants would die if we didn’t care for them.
So they better be irresistible.
In fact, ugly babies are more likely
to be victims of child abuse.
Another thing about babies that I thought was interesting,
was that almost all cute babies had a similarity.
The people in the family all said that the baby
looked like the father,
even if the baby was a baby girl.
You might be asking,”I wonder why this happens”
And you might be questioning
if you’ve ever heard of it before.
Well, it might be impossible to know why it happens.
But here’s what the book suggests.
When you pop out of your mom,
you gotta make sure your mom and dad
can feed you, give you love and take care of you.
So you hack into your mom’s biological systems
by having big eyes, chubby cheeks, and a small, cute mouth.
That doesn’t work on dads.
Instead, you have to look like him.
So, all the family members say,
“He looks just like you!”
And maybe you really do.
Well, this gets dad invested,
and makes him think that he’s truly yours.
Because think about it, 100 years ago,
we didn’t have DNA testing.
And we really couldn’t tell if the baby was yours or not,
no matter how much someone may have promise.
Tip number 2 is to be average.
Now this tip is a little bit weird.
And you might not even be able to do anything about it.
But, here’s how it works.
So, someone took a bunch of psychopath faces
and blended them together into a single face.
The face was the average of a bunch of psychopaths.
So what would you expect?
We get a very handsome man. Isn’t that weird?
So, someone else took this,
and they went a little step further.
They took 32 random faces
and average them by blending them all together.
And what do you know? Another handsome face.
We can also do this with woman’s faces
and get an average beautiful face.
For some reason, beauty seems to be just averageness.
Now, I’m gonna try to attempt to explain it
with two simple stories in nature.
The first one was that there was a study done on
bird wing length and how long those birds live.
In general, the more average that a bird
wing length was, the longer the bird live.
They said that the lesser died in storms
and the lesser was eaten by predators.
Why? Well, if you have extra long wings,
or maybe super short wings,
I would assume that maybe you have a
genetic mutation or an error that cause to that.
And the bird was less aerodynamic,
and wasn’t as efficient in flying.
So, in average wing length means that you can live longer.
Now, what about zebras?
Now, the book doesn’t really talk about this.
But I think it’s basically the same thing.
See, zebras don’t have black and white stripes
for camouflage, obviously.
They have them to blend in. And we know this.
Because if you paint a red dot on a zebra,
or you tag its ear,
it would be the first zebra to get eaten.
Why?
Because lion and other predators can actually
focused on that single zebra and catch it.
You know the saying
“A man who chases two rabbits catches none”?
Well, it’s true. And it applies to zebras.
Their’s stripes make them look like a huge herd,
and so, an average zebras will live longer,
while a zebra without stripes, or maybe
only three legs, or maybe even a red dot on it,
will not live long at all.
So, as I end this tip, you should aim for
an average face, if you want to be attractive.
Because it seems to be a sign of health.
If your face is average,
there’re no genetic mutations
or biological errors, and you seem safer,
thus, more likely to be an investing mate to a woman.
Tip number 3 is to be healthy.
On the same note, you should try to be healthier.
And there are a ton of reasons for this.
But you should know that being extra healthy,
doesn’t necessarily set you apart.
But there seems to be a line that you have to at least cross
between being healthy and being gross.
You need to cross that minimum line to be acceptable.
And you gonna accomplish this by taking shower daily,
brushing your teeth, basic fingernail etiquette,
you know, just basic hygiene stuff.
And one prove of this is acne.
Acne to us, to most people, isn’t really attractive.
Why?
Well, it’s because acne is an inflammatory response
of the skin to bacteria.
That’s all acne and pimples are.
They are basically just bacteria.
And this is why the most important tips to have less acne
is literally just to clean your face more and not touch it.
The book notes that almost all beautiful people
have no acne. Because it’s a sign of health.
Another sign of health is long lashes hair and long eyelashes.
That’s why most men are attracted
women with these features.
Another sign of health is symmetric,
which seems to be very important to being beautiful.
And I could tell you to be more symmetrical,
but honestly, there really not much you can do
other than plastic surgery.
So, to recap tip number 3 is that
being healthy usually means being attractive.
Tip number 4 is to hang out with
beautiful women, specifically if you’re a guy.
So I don’t want to go into too much details here.
But the book said that a man’s attractiveness rating
by other woman increased, if he was pictured
with other beautiful women around him, a lot.
So, if you’re a guy and you convince
a good looking woman to be around you
more often, your social status will raise.
Look at guys like Tai Lopez and Dan Bilzerian,
who are always around beautiful women.
Not only will it make you more attractive,
but studies say that by having an attractive girl
around you will also cause other people to think
you’re more confident, more intelligent and friendlier.
So, that’s a cool little psychological hack.
The next tip I have is to use fashion.
Have you ever heard of “clothes make the man”?
Well, according to some studies,
it’s not the clothes that make a man,
it’s what the clothes represent, high income,
social status, and access to resources.
In one particular study, a ton of women were asked
if they would consider marrying a group of men
based on some information that was given.
And one of this pieces of information given was the salary.
And you should know, not very many of the women
wanted to marry a guy with a roundness same income.
And absolutely no woman in this study
say that they wanted to marry a guy
with an income that was lower than theirs.
The book mention fashion a little bit, too,
as you can use fashion as a way
to show off your net worth,
which is like statistically the main thing
that women look for in a man,
even if they say that they don’t.
See, fashion is a way for high income individuals
and the elites to distinguish themselves.
And then you always see the middle class
and the lower class trying to imitate the same fashion.
And this is why fashion is always changing,
and there are so-called seasons of fashion.
To be more attractive, you should understand
what is in season,
and use it to your advantage to make it
look like you’re super wealthy to be more attractive.
The next tip I have for you is to adjust your body proportions.
So, there is a small catch to this one.
If you’re in a place where there’s a lot of feminine,
the people in the geographic area will
see excess fats as more attractive.
They’ll be more attractive to obese people.
Even if they say it’s unattractive,
it will still persuade them and have an affect on them.
However, in most first world countries,
and like in the United States,
obesity has such a great influence
on people’s perception of attractiveness
that neither breast size, nor waist-to-hip ratios can compete.
So you don’t have to worry about any of the feminine issues
in most countries if you’re viewing this video.
Something else I want to note about beauty is
that it seems to transcend race.
Beautiful people of any race are beautiful
when they are rated by people of any race.
So, that’s pretty cool and optimistic.
I mean, it basically says beauty isn’t racist.
Anyways, let’s go onto waist-to-hip proportions.
The book said that the most beautiful woman
have a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.7.
Barbie has a proportions of under 0.6.
And you can really see what start to happen
when you exaggerate these features.
So, if you’re a girl, you can greatly improve
your attractiveness by slimming down
your midsection and making your hips wider,
which happens, and it’s a
multi billion dollar industry.
And for men, if you want to become more attractive,
you want to get that V shape down your back,
and aim for a waist-to-hip proportions between
0.85 and 0.95, so your waist should be
just a tad bits smaller than your hip line.
And for men, this can usually be done
through weight lifting, cardio and a decent diet.
My 7th tip for you is to look more dominant.
In one study, the more dominant
a high school boy look, the more sexual active he was.
But what does dominant mean?
Well, according to the book,
it means a strong jawline, more testosterone
in your system, a high muscle to fat ratios,
and a bit to do with your facial structure.
But the most telling was the dominant body language
which is something I’ll get into the next tip.
The people in the study also noted
that men can be too masculine.
And when it happens, they start to look like criminals.
At least those were the people’s words,
they said that people who are rated too masculine
were also those to be rated less honest,
and have more negative personality traits.
So again, this tip is to look more dominant,
which you can control by going to the gym more,
eating healthier and training your brain with the next tip.
And the last tip is dominant body language.
Now, I’m not gonna go into
any dominant body language in this video.
Because one, I have a bunch of other videos that cover it.
And two, because I cover it in depth in an online course
I created and titled this “Psychology of Attraction”.
Actually, Valentines Day is coming up.
But I wanted to let you know there’s

So, if you enroll as student and don’t get
any benefits, which for my sample of
a thousand students hardly ever happens,
I will personally send you a refund.
What’s the worst that could happen when you enrolled?
You could what? Waste a couple of hours?
Because you know that I’ll refund you, if you don’t like it.
What’s the best case scenario?
Well, you could learn tactics and skills
that can completely change your view on
picking up woman, and being an attractive,
confident and a dominant man.
Again, before I sum up this video,
the link to that is PracticalPie.com/POA.
网址是PracticalPie.com/POA
Just that you know that “POA” stands for
“Psychology of Attraction”.
So, to sum up this video, tip number 1 is
to have a big eyes, small mouth and nose.
Tip number 2 is to be average.
