用good还是well?令人困惑的英语语法

GOOD or WELL 🤔 Adverb or Adjective? Confusing English Grammar

Well hey there I’m Emma from mmmenglish!
大家好 我是Emma 来自《艾玛英语》
These little but very common words can cause
这些不引人注意但又常见的单词
English learners quite a few headaches.
让英语学习者非常头疼
They’re very similar in meaning
它们在意思上十分相似
but they’re not used in the same way.
但使用方法不同
It’s easy to confuse them!
很容易将它们弄混
So this lesson is going to be short and sweet
这节课将是短小精悍的
but we are going to get to the bottom of this.
但是我们将会对这个问题一探究竟
Confusing the words’good’ and’well’
搞混“good”和“well”
is a really common English error.
是一个非常常见的英语错误
Now there are some clear rules
有一些清晰的规则
that can help you to use them correctly
能帮助你正确地使用它们
but there are also some exceptions to the rules
但这些规则中也有些例外
which probably leave you feeling a little bit confused.
可能会让你感觉到困惑
The most helpful thing to keep in mind is that’good’
最有用的是去记住“good”是形容词
is an adjective and’well’ is an adverb.
而“well”是副词
They’re two different parts of speech.
它们在语言中是两个不同的部分
A quick reminder. Adjectives can modify nouns
提醒一下 形容词能够修饰名词
or tell us more information about a noun.
或者告诉我们更多关于名词的信息
So’good’ modifies a noun.
因此“good”修饰名词
Something can be good.
A good kid.
A good afternoon
A good night’s sleep.
All of these things.
类似这样的例子
Now as an adverb, ‘well’ modifies a verb.
作为副词 “well”修饰动词
An action can be done well, right?
She swims well for her age.
We have eaten well.
In both these examples,’well’ is modifying the verb.
在这些例子中“well”修饰动词
Now,nine times out of ten, most of the time,
十有八九 即大多数时候
the question you need to ask yourself is:
你需要问自己一个问题
Am I modifying a noun or an action?
我要修饰名词还是动词?
And this will help you to make the correct choice between’good’ and’well’.
这有助你在“good”和“well”之间 作出正确的选择
Sweet!
真棒!
But now I have to mention a significant exception
但是关于“good”是形容词 “well”是副词这个规则
to this rule that’good’ is the adjective and’well’ is the adverb
有一个例外情况我必须得说
because when you’re talking about health,
因为当你谈及健康
the quality of someone’s health,
一个人的身体状况
‘well’ can be used as an adjective too.
“well”也可以用作形容词
So if someone is well, it means they’re healthy.
因此 “someone is well”意思是他们很健康
My brother is safe and well.
My brother is safe and well.
Is your mother well enough to travel?
Is your mother well enough to travel?
All good?
学会了吗?
‘Well’ can be an adjective when you’re talking about health.
谈及健康时 ”well”可以作形容词
Okay are you ready for another exception?
好了 准备来看另一个例外了吗?
We can actually use’good’ with some non-action verbs like
我们实际上能将“good”与一些非行为动词搭配
Be look seem and feel
比如“ be” “ look” “seem” 和 “feel”
These are stative verbs.
这些是静态动词
So we do that when we’re connecting a subject
那么当要与主语连接形容词时我们这样做
to an adjective. We can say:
我们可以说
Don’t worry everything’s good.
Don’t worry everything’s good.
everything is good
everything is good
This book is good
This book is good
the children are good
the children are good
Right?
对吧?
I feel good today.
I feel good today.
The new office seems good.
The new office seems good.
The hotel you’re staying in looks so good.
The hotel you’re staying in looks so good.
Right?
对吧
So here we can use’good’ with a non-action verb.
所以可以将“good”与非行为动词一起用
The last little exception or rule to remember
最后还要记住一个小例外和规则
is that’good’ can be used with the verb’do’ when’good’ is a noun
当“good”是名词并且你谈到正确道德行为时
when you’re talking about morally correct behaviour.
“good”可以和do动词一起使用
Some people volunteer to do good within their local community.
Some people volunteer to do good within their local community.
They help others. This is to do good.
他们帮助别人 这是做好事
Now word order is really important to get these wor
为了在句子中正确表达单词 单词顺序很重要
ds right in your sentence because they’re different types of words, they are treated differently in our sentence.
因为它们是不同类的词 在句子中的用法也不同
It’s a really common mistake to say:
人们常犯这样的错
Sarah plays well football
Sarah plays well football
The adverb doesn’t usually go between the verb and the object
副词一般不放在动词和宾语之间
. It goes after the object. Right?
而放在宾语后面
It’s something to keep in mind.
对吧 这是需要记住的
Sarah plays football well.
Sarah plays football well.
All right, you know that I like to make my lessons
好了 你知道我想让课程更具实操性
practical for you so that you can practise what you’ve learned during the lesson.
所以我们将会有课堂练习
So are you ready to try it out?
那么你准备好做练习了吗?
First sentence.
第一个句子
you speak English good
you speak English good
Is it correct?
这句话正确吗?
you speak English well
you speak English well
Because we are modifying the verb’speak’ here in this sentence.
这是因为我们在这个句子中修饰动词“speak”
What about:your English is well Is that right?
那句子“ your English is well” 正确吗?
This word is an adjective.
这个单词是形容词
We know because we can see the subject followed by the verb’be’ so I guess
因为在句子中主语后边跟着动词be
we could use’well’ as an adjective, right?
所以我猜 我们可以用“well”作为形容词 对吗
But English is a thing not a person
但是英语是一门语言 不是人
so it doesn’t make sense to say that English is in good health.
因此说英语是健康的 是讲不通的
We need to use’good’ here.
这里我们需要用“good”
your English is good
your English is good
Let’s try another.
我们再试试另一个
I want you to fill in the gaps.
本例中你需要填空
I’m having a ___day
I’m having a ___day
Can you guess the correct word here?
你猜填哪个单词是正确的?
The adjective or the adverb?
形容词还是副词?
Good!We are modifying the noun’day’.
“good” !这是修饰名词“day”
I’m having a good day.
I’m having a good day.
But I want you to write a similar sentence with
但是我想让你用副词“well”写一个相似的句子
the adverb’well’, right?
好吗
Write it in the comments now.
现在 在评论区写下答案
You might need to change the verb in that sentence to help you.
或许需要改变句子中的动词来帮助你
My day is going well.
My day is going well.
Now the adverb is modifying the verb, right? Good job!
这样副词在修饰动词了 对吧 非常棒
Did he do something on his exam?
Did he do something on his exam?
well We’re modifying the verb’do’ here.
“well” 这里我们将修饰动词do
This rain is something for the garden.
This rain is something for the garden
good haha
good haha
her job isn’t something for her health
her job isn’t something for her health
Careful. The word that goes in this space is’good’.
注意 空格中应该填“good”
Just because we’re talking about health in the sentence
虽然我们在谈及健康
doesn’t mean we need to use’well’.
但是并不意味着我们需要用“well”
you spoke____at the conference.
you spoke____at the conference
‘good’ or’well’?
“good”还是“well”
you spoke well.
填“well”
I saw Jeremy last night. He looked___.
I saw Jeremy last night. He looked___.
Well here we could actually use the adjective’good’
我们可以使用形容词“good”
or the adjective’well’.
或者形容词“well”
Both are possible but the meaning is different, right?
两个都可以 但是意思是不一样的 是吧
Think about the difference in the meaning.
想一想意思上的差别
‘Well’ means that he looked healthy.
“well”意思是他很健康
‘Good’ means that he was pleasant to look at – handsome!
“good”意思是他看起来很帅气
What about if I said: How are you?how would you answer that question?
如果我问你 How are you 你会怎么回答
Would you say:I’m good. Or I’m well.
你是会说 I’m good 还是 I’m well
It denpends!Again you could say either.
看情况 两个词你都可以选
You could use either adjective
你可以使用任意一个形容词
but the meaning is slightly different.
但是意思是有些许不同的
I want to finish up today’s lesson with a fixed expression
我想用一个固定的表达来结束今天的课程
that seems to challenge these rules a little.
这个表达会稍微不同于这些规则
This one.
这个例子
to get someone good
to get someone good
which means to trick someone or to fool them
这句话的意思是 戏弄或欺骗别人
so anyone who tricked their friend on April Fool’s Day
所以 在愚人节戏弄朋友的人可以说
You can say: I’m really got him
I’m really got him good
good,which means you tricked him.
意思是你愚弄了他
I also want to mention before we finish,
在结束之前 我还想提醒大家
that in informal spoken English, you’ll hear
在非正式口语中 你会听到
native English speakers bending the rules a little.
以英语为母语的人的人有时会违背语法
You’ll hear them use’good’ as an adverb.
你会听到他们用“good”作为副词
How’s Tony going?
How’s Tony going?
He’s going good.
He’s going good!
Now this is not actually grammatically correct
这句话从语法来讲并不正确
but it’s reasonably common and I really recommend
但是这种说法是合理常用的
that for you guys, you stick to the rules.
我建议大家一定要遵守语法规则
Play by the rules, especially
遵守规则 尤其是
if you are studying English to sit an exam.
如果你正在准备英语考试
So in that sense, this is incorrect
从这层意义上说 这句话是不正确的
but you’ll hear it all the time.
但是你总会听到它
So that’s it for today’s lesson,
以上就是今天的课程内容
I told you it was going to be short and sweet.
我告诉过你这节课短小精悍吧
And I hope it was helpful as well.
我希望它也对你有帮助
There are lots of pairs of words like this in English,
在英语中还有很多对像这样的词
words that have similar meanings but they’re used differently in sentences.
单词有相似的意思 但是在句子中的使用方法不同
Can you think of any others?
你能想到其他的吗
If you want me to make a lesson about any more of these pairs of words,
如果你想听更多的关于成对词的课程
then make sure you tell me about it in the comments.
