Today, I’m going to show you a very easy way on how to drill holes in glass.
We’ll also do this mason jar.
And we’ll also drill through this thick base in this flower vase,
and on a plain piece of glass, a mirror and a bathroom tile.
So for cutting holes in glass in the past, I’ve used a carbide tip blade just like this.
This was actually for masonary, the ones for glass have got more of a severe angle and they’re more pointed.
But I found that when I use those, they took forever to drill through the glass.
So what I found were these super cheap hole cutting bits on eBay, these things work fantastic.
And the price on eBay is right around the $10 mark.
But guess what? You don’t just get one.
You get 10 in the kit all together.
And they range in size from quarter inch all the way up to an inch and a quarter.
And you think that after you used it once it probably be ready to be tossed away, because it’s probably dull.
But that’s not the case.
I’ve used one of these bits here.
And I’ve drilled about 10 holes with it so far. And it drills just like it’s still new.
But you’ll notice that there’s one thing that they don’t have.
So this wood cutting bit I have here, it has a drill bit right in center.
So that it’s easy to start the hole, and then it cuts the hole once it gets down to the cutter.
These ones don’t, but I have an easy way to get around that.
Let me show you how to make a little jig.
And when you go on ebay, use this as a search term.
And, of course, if you have a drill press, you don’t even need the jig.
So first grab yourself a piece of quarter-inch wood, just a scrap piece will do.
Now grab yourself a drill bit, that’s the same size as the hole that you want to cut with the bit that you want to use.
And once you have the holes cut, just make sure that the bit will fit into the hole rather easily.
If it doesn’t, just use the file, and file the hole around until it fits nice.
So when you’re using one of these bits, you do need to use water to keep the bit cool as you’re cutting.
Some people use the sponge to squeeze water onto it,
others use like a little dam made out of putty around it to put like a pool of water around the bit.
But I’ve got an even better way, and that is use a two-liter pop bottle.
然后用针 钻头 或者其它什么 在瓶子中间刺个洞
So just take a pin, or a drill, or whatever, and poke a hole about halfway down the bottle in the side of it.
Now just fill the bottle with water, and put the cap on it.
And now all you have to do is place the bottle down, get it position, and undo the lid,
and the water comes right out onto the bit.
当你完成时 只需把它拧紧 水就会停
And then when you’re finished, just tighten it up and the water will stop.
This will last you for a good 15 minutes.
So we’ll cut this pane of glass first.
So just lay it on top of a scrap piece of wood.
And take your template that we’ve made up, and place it where you want the hole to be drilled.
And start your water.
拿起钻头 功率全开 用钻头的重量钻孔
And now just take your drill bit, and go full-speed, and just let the weight of the drill do its work.
Cut in real time.
And once you’ve got the hole started with the template, you can take it off.
Because it’s already got like a little ridge made in the glass now for you to put the bidding.
Rocking the drill in a circular motion helps it cut.
你可以看看玻璃的背面 它有点 边缘有点破损
So you can see on the backside of the glass here how it kind of… it just broke the edge a little bit.
But if you get good at it, and you go nice and slow, that’ll be reduced even more.
So let’s do a wine bottle next.
So I like to use a beach towel, that way there’s a little bit of cushioning, and it won’t roll around as much.
Turn the water on.
Actual time to cut 11 seconds.
Now we’ll try the bigger bit on a mason jar.
You may need a friend to hold the jig when using bigger bits.
Actual time to cut 30 seconds.
Now we’ll do the side and the bottom of this fairly large vase.
Actual time to cut 35 seconds.
Actual time to cut 50 seconds.
And now let’s do a ceramic bathroom tile.
Actual time to cut 12 seconds.
Actual time to cut 38 seconds.
And a coffee mug.
Actual time to cut 22 seconds.
