– [Narrator] Though itcan feel counterintuitive,
working out in the morning has many scientifically proven benefits,
including reducing stressand increased energy.
It could even make you smarter by strengthening neural networks.
So to see just how beneficial it is,
we asked Ruth and Cale to work out before their work day.
– I was getting up between 6:15 and 6:30,
which was really early for me.
So I’m tired.
And then I, as a regimen,
began using the elliptical
because I didn’t wan na do weight training
in the morning because I was too tired.
I would put it up to a very high resistance for
two minutes and then bringing it down and bringing it up
and was tracking my heart rate to make sure I was
getting it into the correct zones if you will.
It was actually awful.
– I do this app, it’scalled the Sweat app.
You do these intense circuits basically.

We are at the gym, working out, sweating.
I’m mostly jogging and then I’m
like running as fast as I can
and then I’m jogging again and then I’m running as fast
as I can and it sucks and I hate it,
but afterwards you get an endorphin rush
so it feels very great.
Did this working out in the morning
make you more productive during your day?
I thought I would be like, I’d come in
like rearing to go, gon na go type at
my computer and do all this stuff.
I did my work fine,
but I still had the same pitfalls of lack of productivity that I did before.
The only thing that this changed was
that I had a sense of moral superiority,
like silently from everyoneelse in the office.
I wasn’t fatigued which was good.
I did feel like maybe alittle bit more energized
but like I didn’t feel like I was
working harder or at a better pace
or with less procrastination than before.
– I did feel a little fatigue.
Some mornings I’d just be like ugh,
and then getting into work is like ugh.
– By the end of the day it felt every day
like I was doing a marathon
and you’re like how, isthis day 18 hours long?
– I mean I definitelyhave to go to bed earlier.
This stuff is good for you.
I don’t think it makes me any more productive, but
I do, like the best part about doing this in
the morning as opposed to like doing it at night I
think is that I forget that I ever did it
and I’ll be like oh shit,
should I like go to the gym?
And then I’m like oh no, I already did that, that’s great.

– Yeah, this was fun and I’m gon na try and do it,
but who knows what the future holds.
I mean I’m now paying a gym membership
so yeah I’m gon na do this.
