美国俚语: SALTY, CAN’T EVEN

AMERICAN SLANG: SALTY, CAN’T EVEN

我甚至不能
I can’t even.
这表达什么呢?
What’s this mean?
在今天的夏日俚语的短片中 我们将学习 can’t even 和 salty这两个说法
In today’s Summer of Slang video, we’re going to learn can’t even and salty.
别恼火 我们马上就要开始进入课程了
Don’t get salty. I’m going to get into the lesson in one second.
但是首先 我想让你知道以防你不知道
But first, I wanted to let you know in case you didn’t know
这个夏天 我开了一个新播客
that this summer, I started a new podcast.
里面有很多有关学习英语的好东西
There’s so much good stuff there about learning English
在里面 我回答了很多你们的问题 希望你们都去看一看
I’m answering a lot of questions from you so I hope you’ll check it out.
到iTunes 商城或者任何你们收听播客的平台
Go to the iTunes store or wherever you get you podcasts
寻找瑞秋英语
search for Rachel’s English.
好了 现在我们回到课程
Okay, back to the lesson
我甚至不能
I can’t even.
你曾经听到别人说过这个俚语吗?
Have you ever heard someone say that?
这个用法我听到过很多
It’s one I’ve heard a lot.
说实话 我都已经厌倦这个用法了
To be honest, I’m kind of tired of it.
它表示我不能应对 不知道怎么对付它
It means, I can’t handle that, I can’t deal with it.
这些东西太多了
It’s too much of something.
比如 在美国大选期间 有关政治的消息到处都是
For example, during the election season in the US, there was so much political information
在脸书上四处传播 太多的政治广告
being shared on Facebook, so many political ads.
铺天盖地而来
It was overwhelming.
我好像听过不止一次别人说 “我无法言喻”
I think more than once I heard someone say “I can’t even”.
或者 如果有些人在脸书上分享一个很可怕的短片
Or, if someone shares an article of something particularly horrible on Facebook, like
比如饥饿儿童诸如此类残酷的
starving children or something terrible,
他们可以说“ 我无言以对“
they might say with it, “I can’t even”.
就好像 太残酷了甚至不愿意去想
Like, it’s too bad to even think about.
事实上 你其实是把这个句子砍了一部分
Basically, you’re cutting off the sentence.
就好像说:我甚至搞不定它或者我甚至不能应对它
It’s like saying: I can’t even handle it or I can’t even deal with it.
我甚至不愿意浪费我的时间处理它
I can’t even waste my time with it.
但是有趣的是 它太糟糕了 以至于你甚至不愿意浪费口舌说这件事
But the funny thing about it is it’s so bad that you don’t even want to waste your words on it
所以你就把这个句子缩减为 ‘我甚至不愿意’
so you just cut it off after ‘I can’t even’.
‘salty’呢?
What about ‘salty’?
这个词描述某些人被惹恼了 生气了 也许怀恨的 烦乱的
This can describe someone who is agitated, annoyed, maybe bitter, upset.
我无话可说
I can’t even.
我现在在气头上
I’m so salty right now.
她非常生气因为他甩了她
She’s really salty because he dumped her.
他在气头上因为他父母把他的车给没收了
He’s salty because his parents took away his car.
所以这两种表达是很相近的
So the meaning of these two terms is similar.
‘’can’t even ‘的发音有点难 因为’can’t’这个词
The pronunciation of ‘can’t even’ is tricky because of the word ‘can’t’.
记住美国人不完全把T的音发出来 :can’t can’t can’t
Remember that Americans don’t fully pronounce that T: can’t. can’t. can’t.
There 这个词 T全部发出来
There, it is fully pronounced.
我们一般从不说 Can’t
We almost never say that. Can’t.
我们说 can’t. 发音很像 Can 这个词
We say can’t instead, which is a lot like the word ‘can’, but it’s more abrupt and cut off.
Can’t – -can’t- –
can’t– can’t–
现在 有人读起来会变得有些懒散: I can’t even. I can’t even
Now, someone could get sloppy here: I can’t even. I can’t even.
把它连起来 略掉t的发音 连在一起读:I can’t even. I can’t even.
and connect it, drop the feeling of the T altogether: I can’t even. I can’t even.
听起来很像 Can的读音 I can’t even 这样就很顺畅连起来了
Then it sounds like CAN, I can’t even, it’s all connected and smooth.
虽然听起来很像’can’ 但是它实际还是can’t 这个短语- 我不能言喻
Even though it sounds like ‘can’, it’s still this phrase: can’t– I can’t even.
记住这个短语被断开了 这句话应该还另一个动词
Remember the phrase is cut off here, there would be another verb in the sentence.
所以虽然我们把它断开 can’t这个词在句中依旧是同样的作用
So even though we’re cutting that off, the word ‘can’t’ still functions the same way here.
它是一个助动词
It’s a helping verb.
Can这个助动词发音弱化到发kn-kn的音
Can as a helping verb reduces to kn—kn—
这就是我们如何与can区分
so that’s why we know it’s not ‘can’
因为can没有弱化发音
because it’s not reduced.
我无法言喻
I can’t even.
所以当你听到 发完整的[ae]的元音
So when you hear that full AH vowel,
就是can’t这个词 即便你听不到t的发音
it is the word ‘can’t’ even if you’re not hearing the T.
Salty 是双音节词 重音在第一个音节上
Salty, it’s a 2-syllable word with stress on the first syllable.
Sallllty Salty
Sallllty. Salty.
T在这里是一个全音T 因为表达的是一类人
So the T here is a True T because it’s part of a cluster.
盐 尖酸刻薄的 Ttt
Salt. Salty. Salty. Ttt—
T轻轻的发音
Light True T release.
我们还有一个重L的发音 Sallllty
And we do have a Dark L here. Sallllty.
所以你不需要把你的舌尖抬起来 因为这个L的发音 你不需要抬舌头
So you don’t want to actually lift your tongue tip up, salll—- for the L, we just don’t need it.
只需要用舌后方重重的发L的音: Salllllllty
Just make the dark L sound with the back of the tongue: salllllllty.
然后舌头轻触上颚 发出T全音
Then the tongue goes to the roof of the mouth for the True T.
Salty
Salty.
Salty
Salty.
我知道发音很难 别恼火 慢慢练习
I know the pronunciation is hard, don’t get salty. Just work on it.
什么时候适合用俚语呢?
When is it appropriate to use slang?
我们在夏日俚语的第二个视频里有讲到
We went over that in summer of slang video 2.
