Thought humans had it bad when popping out a kid?
Here are three crazy ways animals give birth.
Number one– hyenas– females run the show
in the hyena hierarchy, which is why
they have an elongated clitoris known as a pseudo penis.
Female hyenas use this member to urinate, mate, and even give
But running around with a fake penis isn’t all fun and games.
Giving birth through a penis-like clitoris
increases the risk that some of the cubs
will inevitably suffocate during the birth process.
Number two– giraffes– mama giraffes
are pregnant for 15 months.
These moms typically return to their birthplace to give birth,
but they don’t get comfortable.
Instead, they remain standing, letting
their calf fall almost two meters
before slamming into the ground on their head.
Despite this abrupt entry into the world,
the calves are up and walking around
within two hours of birth.
Number three– the Surinam toad.
These moms first release their eggs
to be fertilized by a male, then has them pushed onto her back.
Over the next few days, the eggs will fuse into her,
making a honeycomb structure that
eventually encapsulates the eggs.
After the eggs hatch, the toad babies
continue to live under their mother’s skin
until they’re ready to set out into the real world.
At this point, the toadlets push through the mother’s skin,
pop out of their craters, and head
for their new life in the water.

watch this episode on albino animals.
Albino animals often have eyesight problems.
And it’s true that they may not be
able to camouflage themselves from predators, but aside
from looking snazzy, sometimes that works to their advantage.
